I certainly remember staying up (or getting up early) to hear the currect pop and rock music from the States on that scratchy radio that faded in and out. Also the excitement whenever a new student arrived at Kodai from the States (or returned from home leave) with new 45s, hair styles, etc. Most of us were pretty out of touch!

I have a few memories about Marcia Gipson.  One, I remember she had an unstable knee that would periodically collapse on her.  I recall one early morning ascent of Perumal when we were in high school (? sophomore year) and Marcia had problems with her knee on the descent.  The guys on the trip took turns carrying her piggy-back down much of the mountain.

The second memory is from Baptist Hill where we had our summer "cottages."  I believe the Gipson's were in the duplex below ours. This probably would have been mid 1950s, shortly after we came out to India for the first time.  I remember watching Mr. Gipson (Tracy) change the oil on his Jeep station wagon in absolute astonishment as he replaced the oil filter with a partial roll of toilet paper.
