Memories of Kodai are still very vivid - from study hall where I spent most of my time reading Zane Grey westerns, to milk tea and cinnamon sugar toast, to lunches on the grass by the chapel or the flag pole, carried to us by our cooks or houseboys when we lived off campus, to sneaking out of the dorm at night with Nancy N. and Bobbie Windham and going to the budge for masala dosai! And hearing "Wake up Little Suzy" played at top volume many mornings long before I wanted to get up. One of the most vivid memories is of a camping trip on which we went swimming at a pool formed by a waterfall and fell asleep after lunch. I got the most horrendous sunburn and could barely stand to get into my cotswool pajamas and sleeping bag that night. The next day the backs of my legs were so badly burned I could not bend my knees and I had to get a ride back to school in the supply lorry. Nancy took great delight in showing me the sheets of skin she peeled off my back a few days later! | |
