2006

This was my first Kodai Reunion.   I was in Kodai from 1957 until graduation in 1961.   My dad worked for CALTEX in Bahrain.   I remember getting to Kodai at 2:00 A. M. on a frosty January morning.   I spent 2 years in the Peace Corps in central India (Bhir). I worked on a rural community development project.   When I returned to the U.S., I substitute taught in Oakland, California.   I was also in an intern program at the University of California at Berkeley.   I taught in Seattle for 31 years.   I retired in 2000, but miss the kids so plan to go back teach the sixth grade in Mukilteo, WA.   Rolf Adam's dad was a sub in my class once in Seattle!   Jane Cumming's office is 4 miles from my home.   We have a 19 year-old son who is in community college.   We also have a 15 year-old daughter.   My wife, Donna, is also a teacher.   We had a 1-week courtship and have been married 28 years.   I remember the bike rides down the ghat (often in the middle of the night) and the time Dave went over a wall into a thorn bush.   I remember going out at night and jumping over walls when cars came.   Once 4 of us nearly walked off a mile-high cliff in the darkness.   (We threw a rock over it and it took about 8 seconds for it to hit bottom!)

(Update)   I have taught for the last 2 years in the Mukilteo (WA) school district.   I decided not to return this year.   I think I have finally finished my teaching career.   We have been doing a lot of hiking and climbing lately, and I am looking forward to doing more with my son this fall.   He is a senior with a double major in Law and Justice, and Psychology at a local branch of Central Washington University.   Our daughter is finishing high school and is in the running start college program at Edmonds Community College.   Donna teaches just a mile away at one of the best elementary schools in the state.   We're looking forward to the next reunion!
