Diane Stone Bennett

11/2010 from Nancy Towle's journal of the African trip

Diane came to Kodai in 1960 and 1961. Her uncle had been sent to Bombay (Mumbai) as a journalist for the State Department.  Her aunt and uncle invited her to join them for the year in India and she was thrilled! Kodai had an American curriculum so it was an obvious choice for her senior year. After her Kodai year Diane returned to California and got a teaching degree. She has taught primary grades for 30 years. Diane lives in CA with her husband Richard in San Clemente. Richard met Diane 20 years ago when they were both active in the Sierra Club. Richard runs a family owned metal stamping business, but is soon to retire. He and Diane plan to do more of the things they enjoy together which include:  grandchildren, travel, sailing and hiking.

2006?

I only attended Kodai for my Senior year. I escaped to India. Went with my aunt and uncle escaping The Fonz. My high school was like American Graffiti. My uncle worked for the State Department in Bombay. There was no cultural shock. I loved boarding school and the fact that it was so isolated was very refreshing and focusing. I remember going off on adventures with Christian on his motorcycle. After Kodai I went to school with Kathy Daniels at Humboldt. I became of primary school teacher. I received a Masters in ESL. I have also taught language to adults. I have 1 more year before I retire. I have been married twice. I have two children, 36 and 32. My son,, the oldest, is also a teacher. My daughter is married and has 2 children. The oldest child is a special needs child.
