Carol Stenger Downie Lee

September 2010
Guy and I are doing well;   We are both still working, and actually love what we are doing.    Guy has his own business refinishing hardwood floors, and has become quite the expert!    I continue as a Marriage and Family Therapist/Life Coach, and enjoy being in private practice.    I have developed some expertise in a wonderful on-line assessment tool called THE CALL, which helps folks sort out their spiritual gifts, as well as personality profile, aptitudes and such.   It is the best tool for me to work with.    I deal with a lot of young folks , some of whom are going out on the mission field for 6 months to a year.   and this is helpful in preparing them.     By the way, it can be handled by phone alone, so geography is not an issue.    My email is:  Carol@CarolLeeCoaching.com, if anyone wants to hear more.    Someday, I will get a proper website set up.

Our youngest, Rebecca, just graduated from Pepperdine Law School and took the California Bar Exam.   That is a huge accomplishment.    Now she is sending out resumes for jobs..!! and we pray for openings.   She would be great with IJM or ACLJ, but those are long shots.     Our older sons and grandkids are great.     My son Eric and family are in San Diego area, and Guy's son Geiger and family are in Columbus , Ohio.    Guy and I live in San Carlos, south of San Francisco.   Come see us sometime!!!

The 60s for Carol included re-entry into the USA, going to college in Oregon and then at University of California, Davis, and eventually going to nursing school at University of California, SF. She also got married, and had a son during this time. These were adjustment years as a “third culture kid.” She got her MS in 1970, and later her Marriage and Family Therapy License. Carol worked full time for many years. In 1981 Carol met Guy and they married a year later. They started a new business, had a child and settled in San Mateo. Carol says they have been in business for themselves since the early 80’s, and happily both are able to continue the work which keeps them “young.” Their 2 sons are both settled, married and they have 7 grandkids. Their daughter graduated from Pepperdine Law School and recently passed the CA Bar. “We are grateful for good health and vitality. And we are grateful to God who has been faithful to us through the years.”

Marilyn and I were born in Hawaii and went to India in January 1950.    We were there for eleven years and graduated in 1961.   My family has a long history in India since both of my parents were born in India, the children of medical missionaries.    My great grandfather, David Downie, also lived and served in South India for 40 years, beginning in 1887.   So we are part Indian and part American, third culture kids.   I am married and live in San Carlos, California, with my husband, Guy, and daughter, Rebecca, who is a Junior at UCLA.   We owned our own packaging business for many years and I have maintained a private practice as a marriage and family therapist as well.    Both Guy and I have older sons, from our former marriages, and five, soon to be six , grandchildren.

In Sept. 2001 Marilyn and I visited India for two weeks and had a great time travelling from North to South, much of the time with SaraAnn Lockwood.    It was incredible seeing the towns where we had lived and meeting old friends who had known us in the 50's.    It was nostalgic and moving to see so many familiar sights, sounds, and people.    One of the hard things about living in the States is that we cannot easily revisit childhood roots and memories.   So this was a special time.    Kodai looked great to me; many things have changed and yet much is the same.   It was an awesome trip and we are hoping to go back with Jane Cummings in a couple of years.   Our class reunions have been awesome, fun, great times.    We share, talk, eat, and get reacquainted.   There are special bonds among us and I am grateful for the times we have to get together.    Hope to see all of you in a couple of years.    Lets do it!    Blessings and salaam,    Carol
